Hi Bennie,

Were you a Robinhood in ’69? (I noted Lai Keh, and the 1st Avn Bde patch.) Whether or not, Welcome Home, and thank you for your service.

Bob, did any of your unit's ships display personalized names painted on them like IRON BUTTERFLY, CHEAP THRILLS that you recall from your tour?

Just came across your station here in Australia. Not a Veteran myself but my young brother was killed in action in the dreaded Long Hais SVN 1967, along with 8 mates in an explosion whilst travelling in an APC.
B Company 5 RAR and 2 from 3 Cav. I am off next week for my annual placement of the 9 poppies in the Long Hais something I have done each year for the past 7 years…take care and thanks for the music…Bob

Flash back says it all! There have been more good times, while serving around the world for 41 years, than the eighteen months, May 1966 to October 1967, served in Vietnam! I was assigned to the Combined Intelligence Center Vietnam! Not all of the hours were black, there was the Armed Forces Radio to aid us through the hours, until our DROS, if you forgot, “Date Returned from Overseas Service,” some of us said “dee-ross!” Thank you Bennie, some flash backs are truly enjoyable!

Thanks Bennie, for playing all these requests. In 1969 I made $175 a month and that’s what it cost and I got me one from the PX, a TEAC 8″ tape deck. I “dupped” songs, as we say off AFVN to listen to later. I appreciate you playing,”SUGAR SUGAR” tonight because that was the first song I taped off the radio. And while I was there I listened to it about a couple million times. Anyway, it helped me and others get through days and nights when, a lack for some better words, there was nothing else to do. Keep it up Bennie! You’re the Man!!!

Hi Mate Bennie, still hanging in there, and enjoying the music, even remember Stan, keep up the enjoyment. Thanks even if I’m having trouble finding a penguin to carry a radio to Antarctica, though will keep trying, then you have the planet covered for sure, ha ha ha Thanks mate.

This is better than therapy. I’m contacting the VA so they can pass the word about your station.

Ed Perhay - medium rare here, in the Vegas desert Tuesday, 14 July 2015 01:40
Mike, are you trying to put the VA out of business? Great Idea! They can give up an IPAD to each of us and Bennie and Crew can top us off with say 500 Vietnam Veterans Songs and Shows! I'm all in! wink

Sitting here alone on this 4th of July, the TV is muted and I’m listening to this great radio and reliving some long ago memories. I was “In Country” from March of 66 till November 67. Seems like yesterday. Came home, got divorced, got married, got divorced, got married…and the last one was in 77 and we are still together… Listening to the music I still see the faces, the places, but it’s funny, most of the names are gone now. I have memory problems anyway….I retired from the Army in 79…..a long time ago in some ways, but just yesterday in others. Thanks for this my brother….you put a little life back in this old soldier….

I was not assigned to the 174 AHC but I road door gunner with them several times when they were stationed near Qui Nhon. I was with the 37th Engr Det. out of Qui Nhon but did not spend a lot of time in Qui Nhon. We were an Air Crash Rescue unit. I should have added this to my original note….Like I said, memory problems…

66/67 Swiftboat jockey. Cat Lo to Vientianne (oops) and most everything in between. We are the finest generation there ever was along with our Dad’s from WWII. We might have lost the war but we did it with class. Apocalypse Now on the rivers is a true story, I was there. Trading smokes for kim chee on the Long Tau with the ROK Junk Force. What a trip. Didn’t need any purple haze. That whole tour of duty was a hallucination. Welcome home brothers. One more hill to climb before we go out and you know what I’m talking about.

To: 66/67 Swift-boat Jockey
I was there in 66/67, a Navy air dale. I used to see some of the swift boat guys around the NCO Clubs, and had a lot of respect for those guys. I respectfully disagree with the comment that we lost. The politicians, not the military lost that war. In fact, a North Vietnamese general said several years after the war, that if we had kept up the 1972 bombing of North Viet Nam for 2 more weeks, they would have surrendered. God bless every Viet Nam Vet!
