I would listen to AFVN thru the headset while driving my slick in the II Corps central highlands of Nam. Made it almost bearable. I love listening to Bennie and Vet radio. Its been years since I could listen to somebody who knows all the right stuff.

Bennie Saturday, 26 September 2015 22:32
Thanks, Vince. It is a real joy for all of us here at VVR to do what we do. Welcome Home!

Still here! Being a Disabled Vietnam Vet I can understand how this station that SFC, (Retired) Bennie Blount, has become the best place to listen to music like we heard it during our tour(s) in Vietnam. We all get it, "It takes one to know one" and Bennie knows us because he is one of us! God bless the Vietnam Vet, welcome Brothers!

Bennie Saturday, 26 September 2015 22:26
Thanks Bill, everyone here at VVR appreciates our Vietnam Veterans and wants to do our best to make "Welcome Home" a reality.

Archie Hickerson Tuesday, 6 October 2015 15:16

I've been listening for quite awhile and never mentioned where I was in country. Started out at Blackhorse Basecamp and then moved to Phouc Vihn with the 31st Combat Engineer Battalion 1968.

I'm from 86 Transport Platoon, RAASC, and we were stationed at Vung Tau. We did spend a couple of months at Long Binh from May 1968 during FSB Coral. We were amongst the 277th Transportation Battalion huts. I remember a bloke from Texas called Paul Clarke and that's not a bad memory for 40 odd years !!

Bennie Friday, 25 September 2015 07:44
Not bad at all! Spent some time in Vung Tau myself 71-72. Thanks for listening and Welcome Home!

Chicken Man... our diversion. Chicken Man was the common salutation around our company area.... as one walked the duck board past a fellow's office, we would shout out... "Awk..Awk..Awk... Chicken Man... He's every where; He's every where!" One day as I gave the common greeting, I didn't realize the Division AG was sitting inside the building (hutch) and over heard the greeting....his comment to the person he was visiting was:.... "Hmmmm, there seems to be a lot going on around here I don't know about."

Bennie Friday, 25 September 2015 07:48
