OK, I was just listening to Johnny Horton sing battle of New Orleans and someone has changed the word British to Rebel. WTF????? Are the PC Police on AFVN 40 afterwards????

Bennie Saturday, 18 July 2015 14:34
Hi Sam,
No PC Police on Vietnam Vet Radio smile

Thanks for pointing this out to us. There were two versions of this song recorded by Johnny Horton, one for the USA and another for distribution in Great Britain. Somehow the UK version got inserted into our playlist and the US version was replaced. I have put the US (and more popular) version back into the playlist. Here is a blurb from Wikipedia: "As noted, Johnny Horton's 1959 version is the best-known recording of the song, which omits the mild expletives and many of the historical references of the original. Horton also recorded an alternative version for release in British Commonwealth countries which did not have unfavorable lyrics concerning the British: the word "British" was replaced with "Rebels," along with a few other differences."

Thanks for the update Bennie. I guess we were changing history back then as well. smile

Great music memories of our era of service. USNavy DD709 Vietnam 1968-'69 proud to serve in the only war we had during our time. We went as they all before us went, to preserve freedom and democracy for us and our families. Semper Fi.
